Noguchi will not defend

Japan’s Mizuki Noguchi the reigning Olympic champion in the women’s Marathon has today pulled out of the defence of her title here in Beijing at the Games of the XXIX Olympiad.

The women’s Marathon takes place on Sunday 17 August.

Noguchi, who recorded an Asian marathon record of 2:19:12 in the 2005 Berlin Marathon, and won the 2007 Tokyo Women’s Marathon in 2:21:37 informed the Japanese Track and Field Federation’s Team Coach Susumu Takano, that an injury to her left thigh muscle and to her groin would prevent her participation on Sunday.
