The Olympic Shot Put bronze medallist, Joachim B. Olsen of Denmark, highlighted last night's Copenhagen Athletics Games improving his own national record with a third round put of 21.61m. The result, which elevates him to a third position in the world list this season, bettered his previous best set in Baton Rouge, USA back in 2002 by four centimetres.

The record was a surprise for most observers as Olsen's impressive series of thirteen consecutive competitions over 21 metres between 2005-2007 ended in Birmingham in February and was followed by four more results under 21 metres.

"I've changed a lot of things in my training this year, so I'm extremely delighted that it's working so well. There's a lot more in me to come," said Olsen.

Olsen's next competition will be the European Cup 2nd League in Odense (23-24 June) followed by the Aarhus Athletic Games (29 June), where he'll be facing USA's Christian Cantwell, who currently tops the world season list with a put of 21.98 metres.
