Olympic champion Thorkildsen to open season in Florö

The Florö Track & Field Festival, "Meeting To Remember" will celebrate its 10-year anniversary this Saturday, by hosting the home favourite in the javelin competition, reigning Olympic champion Andreas Thorkildsen.

Thorkildsen will make his season opening this weekend and will face the world's number 2 this season, World Championships silver medallist of 2003, Andrus Värnik of Estonia.

A start list of 10 javelin throwers will top the 10-year anniversary of the beautiful Florö meeting, where all the athletes go together for a deep sea fishing trip after the meeting!

Surrounded by Norway's famous fjords and mountains, the city of Florö is the perfect venue of a scenic trip to the ocean.

Riedel tops Discus Throw

Five-time World champion Lars Riedel will compete for the 3rd consecutive year in Florö, in the discus ring, where Norway's own Mette Bergmann threw a World best result of 69.68 in 1995, in the first edition of The Florö Track & Field Festival.
 
Over the years, a number of World class athletes have competed in Florö, together with Norwegian star athletes of the 90's: Geir Moen, Vebjörn Rodal, Trine Hattestad, Hanne Haugland, Steinar Hoen, Jim Svenöy, Mette Bergmann, who have all won international medals for Norway!

Athletes from a total of 15 nations will compete in Florö on Saturday.
