Following the decision of triple jumper Christian Olsson to end his season, Romania’s Marian Oprea, the bronze medallist at the European Athletics Championships, has been selected to compete for Team Europe in the Triple Jump at the IAAF World Cup in Athens, Greece, on 16-17 September 2006.

Since Team Europe was announced on 18 August, Briton Jo Pavey has been added to the team in the 3000m, while two other British athletes, Tim Benjamin and Nicola Sanders, have withdrawn from the team and been replaced by Kamghe Gaba (GER) and Nataliya Pyhyda (UKR) in the men’s and women’s 4x400m squads. Dwayne Grant has been added to the Great Britain 4x100m squad which will represent Team Europe in Athens.

In addition to Team Europe, the continent will also be represented in Athens by the top two nations at this year’s SPAR European Cup – France and Russia for the men, Russia and Poland for the women – and host nation Greece.
