New additions to the Greek Olympic squad

Meanwhile, the Greek Federation announced three more athletes to be added to Greek Olympic squad.

Voula Patoulidou goes for her 5th consecutive participation in the Olympic Games, this time as member of the 4x100m relay team. The 39-year-old 1992 Olympic 100m Hurdles champion, was the first Greek woman to win a gold in the modern Olympics and in Greece is considered the athlete who paved the way to her compatriots for the progress shown by them in the next years.

Maria Protopapa managed a national 5000m record in the IAAF Grand Prix meeting held in Heusden with 15:07.81, eight seconds better than the previous record and became the 65th member of the Olympic squad.

Finally, Georgios Economidis, a 400m runner with a personal best of 46.59 this season, was named as a member of the 4x400m relay team. This team has high expectations, especially after its participation in the final race of the World Championships last year.
