Pauline Davis-Thompson named as Patron of Marathon Bahamas

IAAF Council Member Pauline DavisThompson, recently proclaimed by the IOC as Sydney Olympic 200m champion who was already part of the famed ‘Golden Girls’ relay success, has been named the Patron of the first running of the Marathon Bahamas.

Davis-Thompson was invited to become patron by Franklyn Wilson, Chairman of Sunshine Insurance, the lead organiser and major sponsor for Marathon Bahamas 2010 and Brian Moodie, President of Marathon Bahamas and Sunshine Insurance.

In accepting the honour, Davis-Thompson invited the community, both local and international, to support this major contributor to the growth of the country.

She will serve as starter for the marathon, the half marathon and the marathon relay which will be run on Sunday 14 February 2010. The run begins at Montagu, loops over the Paradise Island bridges, and traverses Shirley Street west on to Bay Street through to Old Fort Bay and loops back on to West Bay Street, ending at world famous Arawak Cay.

Participation is open to single runners as well as teams from civic organizations, schools, social clubs, families, churches, and groups of friends.
