Allison Peter came into the 6th World Youth Championships, carrying the weight of her small island nation on her shoulders.

She is the only athlete representing the US Virgin Islands and after winning the silver medal in the 100m final on Thursday, anything else would be icing on the cake.

The 17-year-old ran a personal best 11.47 seconds to finish behind Great Britain’s Jodie Williams’ World Youth leading 11.39 seconds and said she was “Feeling wonderful” by what she achieved.

Peter is the first ever female from the US Virgin Island to make a final at the WYC.

Peter who had a personal best 11.50 seconds when she placed third in the Under-20 100m at the CARIFTA Games in April says she earned her medal, “What I put in is what I get out of it.”

So far she says this has been a very good year and can’t wait for the 200m to start on Friday when she goes hunting for more medals.
