Despite of the strong head win Hardus Pienaar and Reuben Ramolefi were impressive winners at the Athletics South Africa Track and Field Challenge in De Jager Stadium, Outshoorne, South Africa.

Pienaar registered an inspiring 82.56m victory in the men’s Javelin. The 24-year-old who threw 84.28m on 27 January in Pretoria which came close to his personal best (84.50m – 2003) wants to exceed the 85m mark at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne Australia next month. “I have fully recovered after my knee surgery. Now I want to stake my place among the best in the world in javelin,” said Pienaar.

Elsewhere on the track, Reuben Ramolefi clocked 8:33.51 to win the 3000m Steeplechase. His Commonwealth Games teammate Emmanuel Mkhabela (8:43.27) was runner up ahead of Britain’s Adam Bowden (9:06.61).

Although Ramolefi fell far short of the national record (8:19) which he wants to rewrite, he remains upbeat. “In the circumstances I am satisfied with my performance. Besides the strong headwind, we missed the services of our pacesetters. They had gone to the South Africa Regional Cross country Championships in Botswana. I know I will run faster next week in Tshwane. I am gearing up well for in Melbourne,” confirmed Ramolefi.
