Australia’s 20old Commonwealth Games women’s 400m Hurdles Champion Jana Pittman, opened her Hurdling year in majestic style with a fast 53.76 run over the one lap barriers in Athletics Australia’s Telstra A-Series meet in Canberra.
Pittman’s time was a new personal best beating her 54.14 when winning the Commonwealth title last summer in Manchester, which was the world’s second fastest time in 2002.
Australia’s sprint find Patrick Johnson, after weeks of fast performances with wind assistance proved that he is just fast in his own right over 100m, running a preliminary round 10.16 (-1.3m/s) and a final 10.13 (-0.5).
Elsewhere in a meeting of strong results, there were two good performances in the Hammer. In the men’s competition Stuart Rendell produced a 79.20m release, while in the women’s event Bronwyn Eagles the Commonwealth record holder, won with 70.28m.
