Port of Spain, Trinidad & TobagoAt the Sagicor/NAAA National Senior Open Championships at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Saturday (21) Marc Burns won the Trinidad & Tobago 100m title in 10.01 secs.

Defending champion Darrel Brown who sizzled down the 100m straight to a wind-assisted 9.88 to strike gold in 2007, this year in the wake of Burns’ storming run collided, some 75 metres out, with Richard Thompson who was running in the lane inside him (3) and fell to the track.

Thompson, the NCAA champion who has a PB of 9.97 sec, was able to continue and finished second in a photo-finish with Aaron Armstrong, both men clocked in 10.10. Fourth was Keston Bledman (10.18) and Jacey Harper (10.24) fifth.

Jamaica’s former World record holder Asafa Powell was a spectator in the stands for this final having run the day's fastest time of 9.96 to win his semi-final, but opting not to take part in the final. It marks a confident comeback for the Commonwealth champion who has been suffering from a chest injury and who last ran an individual 100m on 21 February in Melbourne, Australia.

Kelly-Ann Baptiste powered home in the women’s 100m (11.01 – 2.7m/s). Finishing second was Ayanna Hutchinson (11.26), and third was Semoy Hackett (11.30).

Cherisse Bacchus's best leap of 6.55m was enough to beat Grenadian Patricia Sylvester (6.51m) in the women’s Long Jump.

Mikel Thomas won the men's 110m Hurdles (13.96sec).
