The second leg of the Indian Grand Prix circuit saw fewer fireworks than expected today. The versatile Bengali athlete Pinki Pramanik ran a brilliant race but eased up at the tape in 2:03.90, her second best ever for the women's 800m.

Pramanik, a semi-finalist in the 2003 World Youth Championships, had clocked a career best of 2:03.42 four days earlier in Delhi at the first leg of Indian GP, and is confident of making a podium-finish at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne next month.

Only two athletes took part in the women’s 1500m, and it was O.P. Jaisha who recorded her third straight victory of the season with a career best time of 4:16.80.  Sinimol Paulose was second again with 4:20.22.

In the men’s race, Pritam Bind posted a 1500m personal best of 3:45.97.  Employed with the Oil and Natural Gas Commission, Pritam holds the national indoor record (3:47.23) thanks to his third place finish in Pattaya, Thailand, a week ago.

Kerala’s R. Rajeev took the men’s 800m in a pb of 1:50.22.

The organisers were forced to cancel the field events for women as many athletes opted to take a rest ahead of the Federation Cup which will be held in Delhi in the first week of March.
