World Marathon record holder Paula Radcliffe is the stellar signing for the 2005 Flora London Marathon on Sunday 17 April 2005, it was announced today.

“It doesn’t get any better than this for the 25th anniversary,” said Race Director David Bedford. “After announcing the greatest men’s field ever we now have the greatest women’s distance runner ever.”

Radcliffe made her eagerly awaited Marathon debut three years ago in London, setting a scintillating time of 2:18:56 and returned the following year to lower her World record (of 2:17:18 set in Chicago on 13 Oct 2002) to an astonishing 2:15:25.

Last autumn, just weeks after dropping out of the Olympic Games Marathon and 10,000 metres, Radcliffe blazed back to add New York to her London and Chicago titles. This will be her sixth Marathon.
