Olympic 110m Hurdles champion Dayron Robles will return to headline the field at the Zagreb 2009 meeting on 31 August in Zagreb, Croatia, organisers announced today.

The Zagreb 2009 meeting is a Grand Prix status meeting as part of the IAAF World Athletics Tour 2009.

After a late start to his campaign due to injury, Robles is undefeated this season in seven competitions, and is the current world leader at 13.04 from Ostrava last month. The 22-year-old Cuban has a full competitive slate ahead of next month’s World championships, with stops planned in London this weekend, and next week in Monaco and Stockholm.

It will be the fourth consecutive appearance for the World record holder at Zagreb’s Mladost stadium, who will be aiming for his third consecutive victory at Croatia’s premiere annual international competition. His only loss in the Croatian capital came in his debut there in 2006 when he was edged by American Allen Johnson, 13.19 to 13.20. Coming 11 days after the World championships final in Berlin, It will be one of his first appearances after Berlin.

Named to honour Croatian inter-war hurdler Boris Hanžekovic, the hurdles fields are traditionally among the key attractions at the meeting. Robles will again be targeting American Mark Crear’s meet record of 12.98 which was set a decade ago.
