David Rudisha and Jeremy Wariner will look to continue their impressive Samsung Diamond League campaigns when the 14-meeting series returns to Europe on Thursday 8 July for the 35th edition of the Athletissima in Lausanne.

With Rudisha headlining the field, the men's 800m is likely to be one of the most anticipated events of the evening. The African record holder at 1:42.01, the 21-year-old Kenyan phenom was nearly as fast at Oslo's Diamond League fixture on 4 June when he scorched to a 1:42.04 victory over arch rival Abubaker Kaki to underscore his current stature as the event's fourth fastest performer ever.

Rudisha has said that he's not yet targeting Wilson Kipketer's 1:41.11 World record set 13 years ago, but Kipketer's 1:42.61 meeting record, also set 13 years ago, is certainly within the Kenyan's capabilities. Rudisha started off a little too fast in the first lap in Oslo, and believes that he can run faster if he manages to run a more balanced race on Lausanne's Pontaise track. It's a track he's familiar with, having won in Lausanne for the first time in 2007 when he hadn't even reached his 18th birthday.
