The chief coach of Russian national team Valeriy Kulichenko said that he is very satisfied with the selection of the team for the World Championships in Paris (23-31 August). The most difficult was the selection of the women’s team for 400m because there are about 8 runners who can participate at the top international level.

“But we are not taking to Paris any athletes in 7 men’s events,” confirmed Kulichenko. “They could not show the qualification results.”

”We are planning to win 5-6 gold medals and 17-18 in total and to take a second place. We have a strong team and I hope it can achieve even more then we plan. Our strongest events are the same as they were in Edmonton, but who knows what will happen in reality, the struggle in some events is very unpredictable.”

”I know that the stadium in Paris is very comfortable venue for Russian athletes as in the past they have shown many good results there,” continued Kulichenko.

”Yuriy Borzakovskiy could not participate in the Russian Championships because he has got a cold, but the doctor said he will be all right very soon.”

“In every walking event Russian athletes are going to battle for the gold medal. We’ll see in Paris the winner of 50 km in Sevilla German Skurygin, who is returning after disqualification.”

”And the most interesting dramatic moments are going to be the rivalry between Russian girls in Pole Vault and High Jump. In Pole Vault Svetlana Feofanova and Yelena Isinbayeva has promised to jump at the World record level. Isinbayeva thinks that she can show the result very close to 4.90, “concluded Kulichenko
