Prague – Czech Roman Sebrle, the Decathlon king of 2002 became a proud father today. Sebrle’s son Stepan was born at 10 am in the morning and his first vital statistics were: 2.7 kg and 49 cm.

"It was very emotional, but the main thing is that he and my wife Eva are ok and healthy," said the World record holder.

It was not an easy birth with an caesarian operation being required, but everything ended well for the birth which took place in of Prague’s hospitals.

Sebrle has always said that the birth of his child was for him more important than any sporting achievements this year. Now with the biggest victory achieved he can finish the competitive season in a more relaxed frame of mind, and he still has two big competitions before him.

On Friday he will compete at the ISTAF Golden League meeting in Berlin in a special contest of four events (100 m, Long Jump, Shot Put, 1000 m). The last event will be started according to the differences in total score using the Gundersen tables, known from cross-country skiing.

Sebrle is then scheduled to finish the season at the traditional Decathlon event in Talence, France (September 21-22). At 27 years of age, Sebrle in 2002 is the clear world leader in the multi-events, as he has won all his competitions - European Indoor Championships in Heptathlon and then all three summer Decathlons, Gotzis, Ratingen and the European Championships in Munich.

Already before Talence takes place, Sebrle is the clear winner of IAAF Combined Events Challenge. He is also the best European male Athlete and best representative of any technical event in the current IAAF World Rankings being placed number seven. Ahead of him in the list are only running stars from Africa and America.

His wife Eva (formerly Kasalova, 25 years old) is an 800m runner with personal best of 2:01.88 indoors in 1998, outdoors PB is 2:02.79 also in 1998.
