Decathlon World Record holder Roman Sebrle tried on Sunday (22 June) something rather special. In front of 2000 spectators he contested a Decathlon within 100 minutes.

At the end of the period his score in Schwechat was 7989 points, but due to the fact, that he finished some seconds after the 100 minutes barrier he received a deduction of 42 points. So his score was modified to 7947 points.

Competing with two other athletes he was clearly the best, as the Austrians Klaus Ambrosch and Thomas Tebbich scored, after deduction, 6832 and 6647 points respectively.

"It was very interesting experience. I liked it. Until the Pole Vault I felt fine, but then I hurried too much and the 1500m race was terrible experience. I never contested such a competition before, so for next time I would know what can be better. For example I walked too much between the events, also the break between 100m and Long jump was too big. After 5 events I had a massage and had a nearly 25 minutes break.”

“From my point of view I was satisfied with 100m, also the Hurdles. Not bad Pole Vault and Javelin, I could expect more from Long Jump and High Jump but should be satisfied with results. Also in Shot Put I had a good feeling. The races at 400m and 1500m could be of course better," commented Sebrle.

He was some what disappointed not to have been able to have broken the 8000 barrier, especially as before the 1500m race he had a +100 points advantage on that score.

His next competition is in Prague at IAAF Grand Prix II Meeting in Sunday, 29 June, in a specially contested Triathlon for Decathletes. The main goal for the season is of course the success at the World Championships in Paris.
