FacebookTwitterEmail

Former World Mile record holder Filbert Bayi was the guest of honour at the Shoe4Africa Aids Awareness race in Tanzania on Wednesday.

An astonishing 1349 young ladies and girls from schools in the surrounding districts finished the Shoe4Africa 5km race in Tanzania.

The IAAF World Half Marathon Champion Fabiano Joseph and Commonwealth Games Marathon Champion Samson Ramadhani held the finishers tape for the leading athletes as  Zacharia Baria, the Commonwealth 10,000m silver medalist in Brisbane 1982, was the official time keeper.

This was the largest women's only race held in Tanzania.

The shoe4africa organization based in New York tries to promote Aids Awareness through a running friendly environment of staging races in African countries, bringing young impressionable athletes together with the 'Michael Jordan's of Africa, who can then pass on the important message.
