The Stockholm meeting was among the first to take athletics out of the stadium when they arranged a successful shot put competition in the Kungsträdgården and the event at the IAAF Diamond League will make a return to the city square in the Swedish capital during the day of the meeting on Wednesday 29 July.

Called the ‘Big Shot’, the women’s event will potentially be among the highlights of the Stockholm BAUHAUS athletics meeting.

Reigning world and Olympic champion, and multiple Diamond Race winner, Valerie Adams will return to Stockholm and she will be looking for redemption after seeing her 56-meeting winning streak come to an end at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Paris on Saturday.

Germany’s 2015 world leader Christina Schwanitz, who won in Paris, and 2015 US champion Michelle Carter will be among the women facing Adams.

The Big Shot will be organized in partnership with BAUHAUS and the City of Stockholm.  In addition to the Diamond League women’s event, there will be a national youth and senior men’s competition, as well as ’have-a-go’ sessions for all ages.

“It is great that we are able to bring back the Big Shot at Stockholm BAUHAUS Athletics. For the first time in Stadionklubbarna’s history we have a week in Stockholm full of athletics activities; starting in Kungsträdgården on Monday 27 July with two days of children’s athletics, followed by the Big Shot and then moving to the Olympic Stadium for the Diamond League meeting, then there is a 1000m fun run, and finishing with an international youth competition at the weekend,” said Jan Kowalski, chairman of the Stadionklubbarna, which organises the IAAF Diamond League meeting.
