Olympic women's High Jump champion Yelena Slesarenko, did not start the qualification round of her event this evening after injurying her ankle.

"I've had problems with my ankle and hurt it in the Athlete's Village," confirmed the 23-year-old World Ranked number one. "I received medicine for it but I cannot run with it."

The Russian had won her national title in Tula on 12 July with a 2.00m leap, in what was only her fourth competition of the summer. She had not competed since.
