South Africa confirms selection of 31 for Beijing Juniors

Athletics South Africa has announced a provisional team of 21 men and 10 women for the IAAF World Junior Championships which will take place in Beijing, China, from August 15 to 20.

The provisional team was selected after the recent SA Junior & Youth Championships in Tshwane, and includes several athletes who already have made their mark in international competitions.

JP Hoffmann, gold medal winner in the Shot Put at last year's World Youth Championships in Morocco, is on the team together with other medal winners from the same championships - Simone du Toit (gold in Shot Put and silver in Discus Throw), Noel Meyer (gold in Javelin Throw) and Jan Masenamela (bronze in 800m).

Several medal winners from last year's African Junior Championships in Tunisia are also included in the provisional team - Marli Knoetze (gold in the Shot Put), Robert Oosthuizen (gold in the Javelin Throw), Arista Hefer (silver in the 200m) and Lehann Fourie (bronze in the 110m Hurdles).

Four team members - Tshamano Setone, Oosthuizen, Knoetze and Du Toit - recently represented South Africa with distinction at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
