Germany’s Pole Vaulter Silke Spiegelburg has started her indoor campaign on a high note. At a regional championship in Leverkusen she cleared 4.60m on her third attempt. Earlier she cleared 4.30m and 4.50m, each at her initial attempts.

The 23-year-old then attempted to improve her own German indoor record by one centimetre to 4.76m, but failed three times. Spigelburg had established the record of 4.75m when taking the silver medal at the European Indoor Championships in Turin in 2009.

Ralf Bartels also showed fine form during a test competition in Neubrandenburg, where he competed within a regional youth championship. He achieved 20.15m in the Shot Put with a series of 20.01 – 20.15 – 19.79 – 20.04 – x – 20.05.
