Asafa Powell, Nesta Carter and Sherone Simpson battled heavy rain to post victories at Saturday’s (17) UTech Classic at the National stadium.

World and Olympic triple gold medallist Usain Bolt, who is also the World record holder for the 100 and 200 metres, had a disappointing wait on anchor leg of the 4x100m Relay as his Racers Track Club team, because of some mix-up, did not make a change on the first hand over.?

Running in heavy rain, Powell took the men's 200m in 21.27 seconds ahead of American Travis Padgett (21.34).

Powell, who slowed drastically after entering the home stretch, said the rainy condition affected him badly.

?"I was slipping on the corner and cramped-up in the straight," he explained. "I really wanted to put down a good time, but the condition did not allow," he concluded.?

In the 100m events, Carter and Simpson took top honours. Carter, running from lane five in rain and against a negative 5.20 m/s wind, stopped the clock in 10.24 seconds ahead of Yohan Blake of Racers Track Club (10.28).

In the women's international 100m, Simpson of MVP was the winner in 11.58. World 100m Hurdles champion Brigitte Foster-Hylton, who was matching strides with Simpson, pulled up. Carrie Russell of UTech took the college section in 11.53.

In the women's 200m event, Rosemarie White of Racers Track Club and MVP's Shericka Williams, the World and Olympic 400m silver medallist, fought all the way to the line, but it was the former that came out on top.

?White's winning team was 23.34 while Williams did 23.41.

Melaine Walker, the World and Olympic 400m Hurdles champion, was second in the women's 400m, beaten by Stephanie McPherson 52.48 to 52.84.
