Six more European champions to grace Monaco's Herculis meeting – IAAF Diamond League

The Herculis meeting organisers, the 10th IAAF Diamond League meeting of 2015, have announced the names of six more European champions who will grace their event on Friday 17 July.

Germany’s David Storl, both the two-time world and European champion, will come to the principality for the first time and the meeting record of 21.25m, set by USA’s Reese Hoffa in 2011, has to be in danger.

The worst performance of Storl’s five outdoor contests this season has been 21.20m and he is the current leader of the Diamond Race thanks to his wins at the IAAF Diamond League meetings in Doha and Rome.

Another two-time European champion who will compete this year in Monaco almost exactly a month before the IAAF World Championships, Beijing 2015 is Spain’s evergreen Ruth Beitia.

With her victories at the IAAF Diamond League meetings in Rome and New York, Beitia is not only leading the Diamond Race in her event but also the world outdoor list, thanks to her jump of 2.00m in the Italian capital.

Like Storl, Poland’s Adam Kszczot will also compete in Monaco for the first time.

The European 800m champion has the ambition of improving his personal best of 1:43.30 and going under the 1:43:00 barrier, as no fewer than five runners did so last year in Monaco.

The 2014 European Athlete of the Year Dafne Schippers, who was helped to her accolade by a 100m and 200m double at the European Championships in Zurich last summer, will run over the longer distance in Monaco.

Completing the list of European champions from last summer competing in the Stade Louis II are Switzerland’s 400m hurdles winner Kariem Hussein and Italy’s Libania Grenot, the women’s 400m gold medallist in Zurich.

The above six join fellow European champions Renaud Lavillenie, Banjamin Compaore and Mo Farah, who have already been announced as competing at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Monaco this year.
