Sub 50 second 400m run for Kotlyarova

Russia’s Olga Kotlyarova who was a member of the national squad which set the World Indoor record for the 4x400m relay (3:23.88) in the World Indoor Championships in Budapest on 7 March this year, ran to a world season’s lead of 49.94 seconds in the Russia Cup meet in Tula, Russia (5-6 June).

The 28 year-old had a previous personal best of 49.95 seconds which she established in Yokohama, Japan in 2000. Eighth in the last Olympics in Sydney, Kotlyarova is now one of the favourites for the Olympic 400m crown after having also established an indoor World 600m best (1:23:44) in Moscow on 1 February.

In a separate 400m heat, Olesya Krasnomovets ran a personal best of as well - 50.19.

Also of note, at the Tula meet was a 6.99m leap (0.2 m/s) personal best from Irina Simagina which won the Long Jump, a fast competitive 800m which brought three women inside 2 minutes (Svetlana Cherkasova 1:58.53; Natalya Khrushchelyova 1:58.76, and Olga Raspopova 1:59.43), two sub 55 second clockings over 400m Hurdles (Yekaterina Bikert 54.39 and Yekaterina Bakhvalova 54.94), a Triple jump victory for Anna Pyatykh 14.42, and Irina Korzhanenko’s 20.42 shot win.
