Osleidys Menendez's tenure at the head of the world rankings for the women's javelin was destined to be short lived.

The young Cuban athlete's throw of 66.45 had thrust her into the lead on Friday evening in Lausanne, a metre ahead of the previous leading mark of Trine Hattestad, but Tanja Damaske went one better in the German National Championships on Sunday, when she threw 66.91m.
