In principle the winners of the respective events at the European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg have been selected for Team Europe, except where these athletes are from one of the other three European nations represented at the IAAF World Cup (Men – France, Russia, Greece, Women – Russia, Poland, Greece).  In that case, the next best placed available athlete has been selected.

In the case of the 3000m, which was not contested in Gothenburg, the best placed available athlete in the 5000m final has been selected.  The best placed available athlete in the 10000m final has been selected for the 5000m.

Relays - Complete national teams have been selected for the 4x100m relay.  The four best placed available athletes in the 400m finals at the European Athletics Championships have been selected for the 4x400m.
