There have been recent developments in two African countries who have taken a keen interest in the IAAF School & Youth Programme.

Bamako, Mali

From 10 to 15 March, the IAAF conducted a six-day course in the National Institute for Youth and Sports of Mali. The objective of the course was to educate teachers and coaches who will be commissioned to set up the new IAAF School & Youth programme in the different schools and clubs in all the regions of Mali.

23 participants attended the course which was led by Abdel Malek El-Hebil (IAAF) and Dramane Coulibaly (Director of the National Institute and IAAF Expert).

The National Institute for Youth and Sports of Mali also agrees that the IAAF programme be included in its educational curriculum.

Tunisia

Tunisia showed a great interest in the new IAAF Kids & Youth Programme. At the request of the Athletic Federation of Tunisia, a working visit was made by Abdel Malek El-Hebil (IAAF) from 16 to 18 March 2008. During this visit, three meetings were scheduled:

The first meeting was organised by the Director of the Centre de la formation des Cadres (PE Teachers) who would like to include the IAAF School & Youth Programme in the educational curriculum.

The second meeting took place with the representative of the education inspectors for PE Teachers: they will have to supervise the setting up of the programme in the various areas of the country.

Finally the last meeting was held with the representative of PE Teachers: the latter will have to make sure the programme will become effective in all schools. These meetings took place in the presence of Mr. Slaheddine Drissi, National Technical Director of the Tunisian Athletics Federation.
