Tola favourite to win in Rotterdam

14 April 2000 – Rotterdam - Ethiopia's Tesfaye Tola has set his sights on Olympic glory and will be testing his pace at the 20th annual Rotterdam marathon here Sunday.

Tola, whose personal best is 2:06.57, tops the bill and is favourite for Sunday's match, but faces stiff competition from Kenyan Sammy Korir and Brazilians Vanderlei Lima and Luiz Antonio Dos Santos.

Among the 10,000 athletes competing, some fifteen are capable are capable of breaking the 2:10 barrier and succeeding 1999 winner Josephat Kosgei of Kenya, who established a course record of 2:07.9, but is not competing this year.

Among the women the main battle will be between Australian Nicole Caroll, whose best time is 2:25.52, Korean Eun-ju Kwon (2:26.12) and Kenyan Susan Chepkemei (2:26.38).
