Katerina Badurova vaulted 4.55m on her first try and that was enough to secure the Czech national indoor women’s Pole Vault title in Prague’s Otakar Jandera Hall. That record along with Badurova's duel with former World and European Indoor champion Pavla Rybova, was highlight of the first day of the national championships which took place on 24/25 February. Svatoslav Ton’s easy High Jump victory (2.25m) was the headline on the final day.

DAY ONE

Rybova was leading the Pole Vault because she jumped 4.40m on her first attempt, but then Badurova, who had only survived at 4.35m on her last vault, cleared 4.45m. Rybova was more than equal to that task and flew over 4.50m in response. Badurova in turn surpassed that success with her own triumph at 4.55m, and with Rybova not making her next height (4.60m), Badurova’s victory was secure.

Afterwards Badurova tried for new national record 4.66m, all three were good but ultimately unsuccessful.

In the men’s Pole Vault, Adam Ptacek managed 5.49m and tried without success for 5.70m, while junior Jan Kudlicka bettered his own national record of that category by 1cm to 5.43m.

Decathlon World record holder Roman Sebrle confirmed that his shape is rising as he made 4.83m in Pole Vault and a 8.06 second run in the 60m Hurdles and was satisfied with his championships.

Petr Svoboda won the men's 60m Hurdles in 7.77, but was faster in heats with 7.74. However, Stanislav Sajdok who did not achieve the standard for the European Indoor Champs in Birmingham (7.77). He has changed his approach into first hurdle with new coach Jan Pospisil and hopes for an improvement in the summer.

In the women’s 60m Hurdles, Lucie Martincova bettered her seasonal best to 8.15 seconds and missed the standard for Birmingham by just 0.01s. She had hoped to be selected with a wild card, but that did not happen at the end of the day.

DAY TWO

The men’s High Jump was the most highly anticipated event of the Champs. In the end Svatoslav Ton was an easy winner with 2.25m and unsuccessful tries at 2.31m. Rival Tomas Janku felt his hamstring tighten and decided to pass the competition to be ready for this week’s European Indoor Championships.

2005 European Junior champion at 400m Hurdles Zuzana Hejnova attacked the standard for Birmingham at 400m and missed it with 53.49, but only by 0.09s.

The men’s 400m Birmingham entry Jiri Vojtik won the 200m with 21.05, in what was for him a good preparation.

Junior Katerina Cechova won the women’s 200m in solid 24.04 and was fighting till the end, falling down after the finish line.

World number one ranked Javelin thrower Barbora Spotakova after an excellent 60m Hurdles races on Saturday ( 8.68 and 8.71) tested her speed again at 200m and achieved a very good 25.58 seconds run.
