20 September 2000 - Sydney - At an HSI press conference today in the Sydney Media Centre in Darling Harbor Wednesday, World 200-metres champion Inger Miller confirmed rumours that she is out of the women's Olympic100 metres which begins Friday September 22. Her place in the 100 will be taken by her teammate Torri Edwards.

"I have pulled out of the 100 due to a high hamstring strain that occurred September 7, two days before we left the United States to come here," said Miller. "I did so because I didn't want to jeopardize my chances in the 200 metres and the 4x100 relay. The injury is getting better every day -- and who's to say it won't be all right by Friday? -- but that's what I decided.

"The problem is more mental than anything else at the moment. As long as everything goes OK this week, I'll be there (for the 200 & the relay) and I'll give a tough race.

"It's a hard decision, but it gives Torri Edwards a chance to run Friday, and by next Wednesday I hope it will be better."

Said Edwards, "It's unfortunate that Inger can't run in the 100 - me being her training partner - but it's opened an opportunity for me and I just hope I can step up."

Edwards placed fourth in the 100 metres at the US Trials and is also coached by track guru John Smith.
