Terrence Trammell, the World Indoor 60m Hurdles champion clocked the fastest times in the world this year over both the 60m flat dash (6.46) and 60m Hurdles (7.42) yesterday at the Tyson Invitational meet (15 Feb), in the process beating Maurice Greene and Larry Wade, respectively.

Trammell, 2000 Sydney Olympic silver medallist at 110m Hurdles, ran 7.42 (60m Hurdles) in the meeting, which was part of the USATF’s Golden Spike Tour Arkansas benefiting from a quick start to hold off Larry Wade (7.44) - who had beat him last weekend in New York (7.48 to 7.49) - and Jamaican Dwight Thomas (7.61).

In the flat 60m, Maurice Greene was first out of the blocks but Trammell produced a powerful drive to snatch victory (6.46), ahead of John Capel (6.48) and Greene (6.50).

“Maurice was ahead for the first 10-15 metres. I wanted to keep my composure. I always try to run through to the finish. I was trying to stay focused throughout the race and execute.”

“Running two races helps me hone in on what I need to do. I was just in the zone. I love this track and I look forward to competing here in the future.”

Greene, who was also third to Trammell a week ago in New York (6.51 to 6.57), confirmed “I was very aggressive, I just have no excuses, Terrence ran a good race. I was in a good position and I should have been able to carry it through. I love this meet and will run a lot faster, guaranteed. This is the fastest track in the world.”

In the men’s Long Jump, there was a new world season’s lead too. 2002 world number one Savante Stringfellow leapt 8.29m to narrowly defeat compatriot Miguel Pate (8.27m). They were the first and second best performances in the world this year, over taking Spaniard Yago Lamela’s 8.25 previous lead (Feb 1).

Kenyan Laban Rotich won the men's Mile in 3:55.34, another world best for 2003. Jason Lunn (3:55.49), Canadian Graham Hood (3:55.70), who followed him home, also set the second and third fastest times of the year too.

Triple world outdoor 100m Hurdles champion Gail Devers, who set an American 60m Hurdles last week in New York (7.78), turned in another strong performance in a time of 7.85.
