Tsatoumas chasing National record in Heraklion

old long jump champion Louis Tsatoumas will participate in the Super Grand Prix “Tsiklitiria” in Heraklion with the aim of breaking the 8.36 metre National record in this event, set by Kostas Koukodimos that has stood since 1994

Tsatouma’s personal best is 8.34 (2003), while last Monday in the Venizeleia international meeting he jumped 8.37, with a little help from a 3m/sec following wind (the limit is 2m/sec)

Lined up against the Greek champion in the Super Grand Prix on Sunday in the newly built, modern stadium of Heraklion will be Kareem Streete-Thomson from Cayman Islands, who has a season’s best of 8.11 this year, the Romanian Bogdan Tarus with 8.24 in 2004 and the Russian Vitaliy Shkurlatov with 8.13 this year.

In a world class men’ s high jump the world champion in Paris, Jaques Freitag from South Africa and of the Swedish Stefan Holm, who was second in the great showdown in this event in the French capital. Also competing in Heraklion will be the Serbian Dragutin Topic, the Russian Jaroslav Rybakov and the Italian Alessandro Talotti.
