Two weeks to go to Berlin 2009 – last qualification opportunities this weekend

MonteCarloTomorrow, Saturday (1 Aug), marks a fortnight to go to the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Berlin, Germany (15-23 August), and tonight in Stockholm many potential competitors have their last international opportunity to show their best before the qualification window for those championships closes.

The DN Galan in the Swedish capital, an IAAF Super Grand Prix status meeting, is the last stop on the IAAF World Athletics Tour before the Berlin World Championships, the biggest sporting event on the planet in 2009.

This coming weekend is also a very busy one for national championships around the world, with the composition of the teams from the IAAF’s 213 Member Federations being finalised ahead of the qualification deadline of 3 August 2009 (midnight Monaco time) which is when Final Entries for Berlin must be declared to the IAAF.

The World Championships in Athletics is the jewel in the crown of the IAAF World Athletics Series competition programme, the third-largest sporting event in the world after the Olympic Games and FIFA World Cup.
