US Olympians set to compete at Mt. SAC and Drake Relays

5 April 2001Fivetime Olympic medallist Marion Jones leads an impressive list of 2000 Olympians who have been announced as committed to compete at the Mt. SAC Relays April 20-22 in Walnut, California. Jones will compete in 300 metres. Last year at Mt. SAC, Jones ran 49.59 for 400m, a mark that held up as the fastest by an American in 2000.

Olympic women’s pole vault gold medallist and world record holder Stacy Dragila will also compete, along with 110m hurdle bronze medalist Mark Crear. Gold medallists in the 4x400m relay in Sydney, Calvin and Alvin Harrison, have also committed to compete. Alvin also won silver in the 400m at the 2000 Olympics and has a 4x400 relay gold from the 1996 Olympics.

2000 Olympians Karol Damon, Erin Aldrich and Amy Acuff will compete at a special women’s invitational high jump during the April 28 session of the Drake Relays. Damon won the 2000 Olympic Trials after beating Aldrich in a jump-off, while Acuff, a two-time Olympian and the 2001 U.S. Indoor Champion, finished fourth at the 2001 World Indoor Championships in Lisbon. Aldrich was the 1997 Drake Relays university college high jump champion while at Arizona. She then transferred to Texas, where she was a seven-time All-American and the 1998 and ‘99 NCAA champion.
