Vili highlighted the New Zealand Championships in Wanganui, New Zealand (11 - 13 March) with a world class women’s Shot Put performance of 19.32m - the longest outdoors so far in 2005 - to win her fifth straight national title.

This performance which took place on saturday (12 March), which was one of three New Zealand records set, added three centimetres to her record set in Auckland in early December. Vili went close to having all six rounds over 19 metres. Her series were 19.21m, 19.32m, 19.12m, 19.23m, 19.09m and 18.95m.

The title of female athlete of the championships went to Vili, with the male athlete of the meeting award going to James Mortimer who set a New Zealand resident 110m Hurdles record of 14.05, for his third title in a row.

Former World and reigning Commonwealth champion Beatrice Faumuina of Auckland won her 12th women’s Discus Throw title with 62.39m.

Angela McKee jumped her way to an early qualifying performance for the Melbourne Commonwealth Games next March with a personal best high jump of 1.88m.

Barrett had notched up his 29th New Zealand title in the 3000m track walk on Friday and was looking forward to title number 30. The 20km title went to Tony Sargisson in 1:00:33.

Monique Williams of Tokoroa collected the women's junior sprint treble of 100m, 200m and 400m for the second year. Stacey Linderboom of North won the women's youth sprint double, with times that qualify for the World Youth Championships in Morocco.
