The Chinese National Youth Championships got to a fast start in Yichun today (10). The first of four days had an immediate impact in the record lists when Wang Like (b. 2.4.89) set a world junior best with a throw of 21.68m to win the 5kg U18 Shot Put. The previous mark was 21.45m by countryman Liu Feng with which he won the World Youth Champs in Sherbrooke 2003. Wang had a best of 20.20m last year, but did not attend the 2005 World Youth Champs in Marrakech.
This was also the first competition ever with two athletes over 21m. Xu Zhongnan (b. 13.11.89) took the second place with 21.07m, he had a best of 19.57m from the National Youth Champs last season.
In the other finals of day one Wang Shizhu took the men's 5kg Hammer Throw title with a winning throw of 70.35m and Xun Xiaoyan won the women's Hammer Throw with a 54.76m toss. Both throwers set personal bests.
