Women 400m hurdles
It took a World Youth all-time best for Jamaica’s Camille Robinson to win the women’s
400m hurdles.
First out of the blocks, Robinson who had been impressive in the semi-finals was running in lane 4. And by three hurdles she had already made up the ground on Russia’s Olga Nikolayeva who was running in lane 5.
An excellent technician, Robinson built her victory in the back straight where she managed to maintain her pace between the obstacles.
Robinson seemed to lose her tempo in the final bend and jumped the eighth hurdle with Australia’s Kimberly Crow closing up on her.
But the Jamaican was indeed stronger and as soon as she sensed the danger managed to accelerate and cross the finish line in 58.72, a new world youth best.
Crow was eventually awarded silver in a new personal best of 59.28 and Nikolayeva produced an amazing finish to grab the bronze medal in 59.41.
