Women 60m Hurdles

SemiFinals

France's Nicole Ramalalanirina qualified in pole position for tonight's 60m hurdles final by winning the first heat in 7.95, just 3/100ths ahead of the Russian Svetlana Laukhova, who set a season's best. Anjanette Kirkland (USA) was quickest away from the blocks, but Ramalalanirina's smooth technique helped her gain a narrow edge. Jamaica's Lacena Golding made sure of qualification by finishing fourth in 8.04, four 100ths behind Kirkland.

In the second race, Olympic champion Olga Shishigina (KAZ) eased past the fast starting Michelle Freeman (JAM) at the halfway point, barely brushing the hurdles to record 7.90, five 1/100ths ahead of Freeman. Grant Bisa (USA) and France's Linda Ferga, overcame poor starts to book places in the final with 8.03 and 8.08 respectively.
