Women Hammer Throw Final

Croatia’s Ivana Brkljacic gave her country its second gold medal of the Championships with a convincing win in the women’s hammer throw, as she successfully defended the title she won in Santiago in 2000 and bettering the competition record that she had set in Chile.

The winning throw came with Brkljacic’s 4th attempt, as she hurled the hammer out to a massive 65.18 metres, the fourth best junior mark in the world this year.

The Slovak Republic’s Martina Danisova was second  with 63.91 metres, also achieved with her fourth effort.

The bronze medal went to Russia’s Yuliya Rozenfeld, whose best result came from her second round throw of 60.83 metres.
