Event 3 – Shot put

Natalya Sazanovich of Belarus moved back into the pentathlon lead after her 16.31 performance in the shot put, a mark which was more than 1 1/2 metres ahead of the second-place throw of Germany's Karin Ertl.

Sazanovich's three-event point total stood at an even 3000, with two discplines still awaiting during the evening session.

Ertl, the current European indoor champion, threw the steel ball 14.79 for 2878 points, which put her only seven points behind the second-place Liga Klavina of Latvia, the two-event leader.

Klavina's 13.78 in the shot put was an apparent pentathlon personal best, but was far off the standard set by Sazanovich.

Sabine Braun held fourth place overall with 2854 points after her 14.37 put, while a 14.43 toss by Natalya Roshchupkina produced an aggregate 2834 for fifth.
