Women Shot Put Qualification

Qualification standard 15.00 metres or 12 best qualified.

Ten women achieved the automatic qualifying standard this morning, with the leading throw coming from New Zealand’s Valerie Adams with her first effort of 17.17 metres.

Adams result was followed closely by that of Laura Gerraughty for the USA, with a 17.08 metres first attempt as fellow American Briona Reynolds qualified as one of the next best contenders thanks to a throw of 14.85 metres.

Next in line in this qualification round came Kristin Marten of Germany with 16.18 metres and she will be joined in the final by her compatriot Julia Weichmann, who just bettered the standard with a put of 15.02 metres from her second attempt.

Russia’s Anna Avdeyeva was the fourth best qualifier, as she put out her shot to 15.63 metres with her first throw.

Belarus will also field two finalists with Tatyana Ilyushchenko (15.60 metres) and Yuliya Leantsiuk (15.32 metres) both satisfying the automatic qualifying standard.
