Women's 100m

FacebookTwitterEmail

A spectacular and fitting finale to a meeting of tremendous sprinting with Jamaican Sherone Simpson winning in 10.89, the third fastest time of the summer and all three have been achieved by her.

It just shows how consistent she has been because the fastest of 10.82 was in Jamaica back in June. She also clocked 10.87 in Rome in July and here she came through showing no signs of a long hard season.

Torri Edwards, of the USA, was second in 11.06, her best time of the summer, with teammate Allyson Felix, who won the 200m yesterday, finishing third in 11.07.

It seemed Felix might be set for the double with 30m left from lane four as she made her bid for victory but Simpson had something special left in lane five and drove on to win.

And she left the track with as much speed as she had on it, saying nothing as she passed through the mixed zone.
