Women's 100m - Round 1 - Flash Interviews

FacebookTwitterEmail

Leena GÜNTHER (GER)1st in HEAT 1 100m W - 11.44

I felt really good. I thought it could be possible to win this first round, but I didn't know. But I felt really good, and the warm-up was good.

It was one of my better starts, I'd say. This season, there have been many more that were not so good.

(My time) was really great. I've never run so fast in a first round before, and I'm happy and relieved that it was so good.

I want to get into the finals.

Ashton PURVIS ( USA)  1st in HEAT 2  – 11.73

I feel okay. I almost fell out of my blocks but I had to make up for it. I didn’t use my tape measure, so it was kind of hard for me to do my blocks. I had to get past it, though. That’s it. I feel good. I got first.

I hope for each time to get faster, and just be patient with my race.

Takeia PINCKNEY (USA) - 1st in HEAT 3 – 11.48

I’m feeling good, relaxed. I made it through the first round. It’s basically your mechanics and just relaxing to make it to the second round.

[My goal is] to win, and maybe the next race, the semi-finals, to relax a little bit more and run a little faster.

Tatjana PINTO (GER) – 1st in HEAT 4 – 11.64

I’m feeling good. I think the start was good and the end was easy-going. It was the first race. I want to run my best time  – under  11.46.

Jodie WILLIAMS (GBR) - 1st in HEAT 5 - 11.53

I feel it went really well. I executed at the start, which was my race plan, and then just sort of relaxed from there.

It's quite difficult being out of the mix (in lane 1). I prefer being in Lane 4 or 5, but that's what my lane was and I've sort of got to deal with it.

I could see the Canadian runner (Loudia Laarman) on the outside so I knew I had to push quite hard, I couldn't just relax through. I'm happy with the time.

I'm just going to go a bit harder (in the semi-final) and see how it goes.

Loudia LAARMAN (CAN)-  2nd in HEAT 5  – 11.64

Good, I’m feeling good about it. I don’t know [if I expected it], you just run and…did I expect it? I don’t know.

I just focused on myself [before the race], just thinking about my start and trying to get a smooth transition, and just stay relaxed, because it’s hard to sometimes stay relaxed when you’re in a situation like this.

Honestly, I’m just taking it one step at a time and keep trying to get better and better and see where it goes.

Jamile SAMUEL (NED) – 1st in HEAT 6 – 11.57

My start was not so good. I think I was too fast getting up. The first few metres were not so fast,  too small steps, I think. But then it was going better and better and faster. The last 60 metres I’m happy. Now I will get a good night’s rest and just relax and chill and slowly begin warming up again just like today.
