Allison PETER (ISV)1st in HEAT 123.62

It was okay, but in this weather, coming off the curve, it’s very slippery. I did very good work, but the weather is not too good.

You have to think about your grip coming around the turn. I just tried to push and come home.

No, it [my time] is not enough. But it’s just Round 1.

Stormy KENDRICK (USA) - 1st in HEAT 2, 23.75

I feel pretty good. The rain kind of slowed me down, but overall it was a pretty good race.

The main focus on this race was to make it to the next round, and try to pick it up in the next round and make it to the finals. I’m just going to run smart. See who my competition is, and then just feel the race and go from there.

Anthonique STRACHAN (BAH), 1st in HEAT 3, 23.66 PB

The race went all right. When I first got down in the blocks, my back leg was a little off because the blocks are different from home so I had to adjust it.

I did as my coach back home told me to do, just stick to the plan.

I ended with a personal best, so everything was good. The competition was very stiff, though. It was way harder than I expected, but I’m looking forward to the semi-finals.

The plan was to run the turn hard and just let the momentum bring me home on the start.

Jodie WILLIAMS (GBR), 1st in HEAT 4, 23.79

I just came here thinking I just need to qualify and do what I can, and so that’s what I did.

I couldn’t even sleep last night, I was so excited (about the 100m gold medal), so I knew I just had to keep my head down.

I went around the bend hard and relaxed from there.

It’s hard because you can’t see properly, and it’s cold. You get out here and it’s cold straight away. It takes a lot out of your muscles.

I had four hours sleep, so it’s definitely hard. But I’ve got a bit of a break before my semi now, so I can have a rest.

Crystal EMMANUEL (CAN), 4th in HEAT 4, 24.21

I was tired. It was okay. I think I could have pushed a little bit harder, but it was kind of cold and raining, so I did my best. [For the next race, I need to] come off the turn hard and maintain the straightaway. Hopefully, I”ll do my best to make it to the finals.

It’s great to compete in Canada. My mom’s here, and my coach, so I’m happy they’re here. My mom pushed me really hard.

Kai SELVON (TRI), 1st in HEAT 5 - 23.58

It [the rain] doesn’t change much. The cold does affect it a bit.

No, any lane [is fine]. It doesn’t matter.

[The goal was] Just to qualify, to make sure.

Jamile SAMUEL (NED), 1st in HEAT 6 - 23.56

It’s really wet out there. I think I had a good start. I was holding back because I saw nobody but then I saw somebody and I thought, oh no, so I was coming back again. Today I was a little bit tired because yesterday was very late but with a little bit of energy, everything was good.

Cassandra PASCAL (CAN), 3rd in HEAT 6 - 24.00 PB

I’m tired. I really got out fast and it was great. I PB’d! But I wish it was 23 seconds. It felt good.

I’m definitely going to have to come out a lot faster [for the semi-finals], run the bend a lot tighter, and that should cut my time a lot. Hopefully I will run 23 seconds.

It’s amazing. My first time out here at the opening ceremonies, we saw everyone here supporting us - it’s a great feeling to know all these people are supporting you.
