Purity Cherotich Kirui, Kenya, 1st in heat 1 - 9:52.77
It was not very bad. I did my best. And I am going to win tomorrow. The race was not very bad.
I travelled very well, but tomorrow I will be going to win. I will win gold tomorrow.
Bertukan ADAMA (ETH) 1st in Heat 2 – 10:01.46
The weather conditions were perfect for me.
My plan was to qualify for the final and to try to win that. I kept looking back to make sure there was no-one gaining on me.
[At the 2010 Ethiopian national championships] I kicked when there was 200m left. I was very happy when I won. I couldn’t believe it. It encouraged me to work harder for the future.
Lucia Kamene Muangi, Kenya, 3rd in heat 2 - 10:10.69
I am okay. I’m waiting for the finals. This is just a heat.
It was fine. The sun was hot, it was hurting my head. But I’m going to do my best at the finals and win.
Genevieve Lalonde (CAN) - 10:03.88 2nd in heat 2 (national junior record)
It was a little bit too fast but it was a really good race. Now I look forward to the final. I’ll just rest a bit and enjoy the ride. I’ve been doing really good training. It’s really only the first year I run this race and it’s fun. It’s awesome to run at home. It’s just like the Nationals. I’m excited to run twice more.
Shelby Greany (USA) – 10:18.74 – 5th in heat 1
I don’t think I did very well at all. I was 18 seconds off my personal record. It’s all part of steeple. Some days you have it. Some days you don’t. Leading up to the race I wasn’t ready. Things that play in every racers schedule. I can just hope my time gets me in.
