Women's Sports Foundation names Stacy Dragila Sportswoman of the Year

Olympic and world champion pole vaulter Stacy Dragila on Monday was named the 2001 Women’s Sports Foundation Sportswoman of the Year. She received her award Monday night at the organization’s 22nd Annual Salute to Women in Sports Awards gala at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City.

In addition to the announcement of the Sportswoman of the Year award, the Women’s Sports Foundation on Monday (Oct. 15) saluted the top female athletes in the world. 

Star athletes and celebrities from film and television came together to celebrate the best individual and team performances of the year.

Other finalists for the 2001 Individual Sportswoman of the Year Award were Carolyn Dorin Ballard (bowling, United States); Jennifer Capriati (tennis, United States); Inge DeBruijn (swimming, Netherlands); Siri Lindley (triathlon, United States); Michelle Kwan (figure skating, United States); Ellen MacArthur (sailing, Great Britain); Andrea Raducan (gymnastics, Romania); Mary Riddell (disabled skiing standing class, United States); Annika Sorenstam (golf, Sweden); and Ryoko Tamura (judo, Japan).
