Londoner Christine Ohuruogu is the latest big name athlete to announce her participation at the Aviva London Grand Prix just two weeks before this year’s Olympic Games.

Ohuruogu, the world and Commonwealth will race in the 400m on the Friday of the two day meeting at Crystal Palace on the 25th and 26th July.

The Aviva London Grand Prix is a Super Grand Prix status meeting within the IAAF World Athletics Tour 2008.

Ohuruogu narrowly beat fellow Great Britain Nicola Sanders to the World title last year and fancies her chances of claiming an Olympic medal in August.

“I know that it was the tiniest of margins last year that meant I was the World champion but the margins are small in my field,” confirmed Ohuruogu. “Nothing will prepare me better for Beijing than a warm-up at the Aviva London Grand Prix in front of a home crowd.”

Ohuruogu’s announcement adds another big star name to the event which also sees World sprint champion Tyson Gay face Asafa Powell.

This year will be the first since 1985 that UKA’s flagship event has run over two days and it is expected to attract the strongest field anywhere in the world this summer outside of the Olympics themselves.
