World and Olympic champion Campbell-Brown signs up for Carson

Jamaica’s reigning two-time Olympic 200m champion and 2007 World 100m gold medallist Veronica Campbell-Brown is the headline name announced for the adidas Track Classic in Carson’s Home Depot Center on 16 May.

The adidas Track Classic is one of a select group of Area meetings at which points can be acquired by athletes to qualify for the IAAF / VTB Bank World Athletics Final, to be held on 12-13 September in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Also included in a batch of top name signings are reigning two-time World 200m champion Allyson Felix and two-time World 400m champion Jeremy Wariner, who was also Olympic gold medallist in 2004.

Campbell-Brown, a six-time global individual event medallist posted a 21.74 PB in the 200m to retain her 200m Olympic title in Beijing Olympics, while Felix, a Los Angeles native and University of Southern California graduate, is also a two-time Olympic silver medallist and set her 200m PB of 21.81 when winning her second World crown in 2007. Wariner, the 400m silver medallist in Beijing, has a PB of 43.45 seconds, set when winning the 2007 World Championships, a time which makes him the third fastest 400m runner in history.

Other athletes competing in this year’s Carson event include World 1500m and 5000m champion Bernard Lagat, Jennifer Stuczynski, the second highest women’s pole vaulter in history, and Ethiopia’s 2009 World Cross Country Champion, Gebre-Egziabher Gebremariam.
