Szekely has still not decided whether to officially retire from competitive athletics, despite being dogged by illness and injury over the past two years.
Beclea-Szekely, who claimed a silvers medals in the 1500 metres at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and 2001 World Championships in Edmonton, was diagnosed with hepatitis B in July 2002.
However she is still waiting to see if she is successful in her bid to become the Romanian Olympic Committee's vice-president, before coming to a decision about her future.
“I have not decided yet,” she said. “I am waiting for the Romanian Olympic Committee elections (on November 15) where I am standing for the post of Vice-President. I will decide what I am going to do with athletics after this result.”
“I have dedicated the last two years completely to my family. For many years I deprived them of my presence, because of training and contests. Anyway, now I am more relaxed and more rested.”
